There are five genetive particles; they are གྱི་ཀྱི་གི་འི་ཡི་, and they all have mainly the same meaning, which is ‘of’’, '_'s'.
In a written language, they must go after a certain suffix as follows:
The suffixes ན་མ་ར་ལ་ get གྱི་.
The suffixes ད་བ་ས་ and the post suffix ད་ get ཀྱི་.
The suffix འ་ and the words that have no suffix letter get འི་ or ཡི་.
In spoken language, one can just see if the word where the particle should go is ending in a vowel or a consonant sound.
For the consonant ending, one can go for གྱི་ཀྱི་གི་, no worries, they are not cared for accuracy, yet it would be nice if one had followed the rules.
And the vowel ending words can go for འི་
When the vowel ending is ‘a’ or 'e', one can go for a slightly longer ‘e’.
